Ideas to Help You Slow Down and Reconnect

If you read my blog last week, you know that I discussed the back to school idea of teaching your kids how to be good friends and the importance of being available when it comes to communication.  Did anything good happen as a result of what you read?

I don’t know about you, but after the first week of school, I’m already looking forward to the next school break! It got me thinking though that with all of the focus on kids with school, sports, and other back-to-school activities sure can put a damper on romance (you might be asking yourself, what is that exactly?) So, yes it’s time for a romance boosting post! But before I go there…….

Are you feeling a little down or grumpy lately? How about tired?  Sometimes before we can rejuvenate our relationship with others, we have to rejuvenate ourselves first.  I strongly encourage you to take some time for yourself. Whether that’s a few minutes taking a walk outside, reading your favorite book, exercising or grabbing lunch with a buddy, find something that makes you smile.  Remember, we can’t be as good giving to others when we ourselves are feeling empty.

Here are few Date Night ideas that will help you relax and reconnect.

Remove the Hassle and Order Delivery – Keep in mind you don’t have to stick with the typical Chinese take-out or pizza.  You can of course if you both like it, but nowadays you can order pretty much anything you want thanks to the brilliant idea of places like Doordash and Uber Eats. It might cost a few extra dollars, but trust me—it’s worth it when all you need is a night to relax and not worry about dinner.

Trade Back or Foot Rubs – This idea is not only sweet, you can literally melt the stress from each other’s muscles and nerves. Not sure what you’re doing when it comes to applying pressure? Ask your partner what they prefer or try looking up some simple massage techniques on this helpful video that explains types of massage techniques.

Comedy Movie Night – Nothing melts stress away and gets you laughing quite like watching a funny movie or comedy routine together.  This may be old news but did you know research suggests that laughing can improve relationships, boost your health, and promote overall well being. When was the last time you saw your partner barreled over in laughter, to the point of shedding tears?  The Bible says, “laughter is good medicine,” so try some this week.

I purposely try and keep my blog posts short, knowing that we all are busy and have little time to read. There are many other good ideas out there but these date ideas are simple to plan and will leave your belly, your mind, and your relationship a little happier! Have fun with your partner this week. Let me know how it goes.  And please spread the word of my weekly blog posts with your friends and family on social media. I want more couples and families to be encouraged each week. We have over 1,300 families and we are still growing 🙂 The goal is 5,000 by December.

Check back next week for a post about valley experiences and what they can teach us about God and ourselves.
